Katalyst Sponsors and Participates in the 20th Annual Rick Byrdsong Memorial Race Against Hate
Each year on Father’s Day, the YWCA Evanston/North Shore organizes the annual Ricky Byrdsong Memorial Race Against Hate, a 5K/10K run, walk and youth mile race. The race remembers and honors the legacy and life of Ricky Byrdsong, a former basketball coach at Northwestern University and a Skokie resident who was murdered by a white supremacist while he was walking in his neighborhood with two of his young children on the evening of Friday, July 2, 1999. In response to Byrdsong’s senseless murder, Byrdsong’s family and friends launched the Race Against Hate in 2000 to honor Byrdsong’s legacy and to raise awareness about the need to eradicate hatred in all of its forms. Proceeds from the Race Against Hate are used to advance the mission and efforts of the YWCA Evanston/North Shore in the areas of racial justice and violence prevention.
Katalyst Technologies takes pride in being a company with a strong social conscience. Our commitment to making a positive difference to our community, the environment, and the underprivileged is not a one-off initiative but a sustained effort to make a visible change to people’s lives. Katalyst was proud to be a sponsor and a participant for the 20th annual Race Against Hate, supporting the YWCA Evanston/North Shore’s efforts towards racial justice and violence prevention. Despite the threat of rain, employees from our Evanston office and their family and friends showed up and enthusiastically completed the 10 and 5K runs and the 5K walk.
